Gary Neville has hit back at Loris Karius with a sarcastic Instagram post after the Liverpool goalkeeper described the Manchester United manager as a “failed manager”.
The Reds shot stopper attracted criticism from Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Neville after his disappointing performance in Liverpool’s 4-3 loss to Bournemouth last weekend.
Karius was unable to hold onto a shot in added time and spilled the ball into Nathan Ake’s pass which allowed the on-loan Chelsea defender to score a dramatic winner at the Vitality Stadium.
The Germany Under-21 international has struggled to impress since his £4.7m move to Liverpool from Mainz in the summer transfer window.
Responding to criticism from Carragher and Neville, Karius told The Daily Mail:
“What critics say right after the game, I don’t know what I think. If you asked them again would they say it now?
“I don’t care what Gary Neville said. He was a manager for a short bit and now he is back to being an expert again.
“But he is always very critical. I think he does it to everyone. I just hope that when I do well he will comment on that. We will see in the future.”
However, former Valencia manager Neville has responded to Karius’ interview with The Daily Mail, highlighting that Liverpool legend Carragher was just as stinging in his analysis of the German goalkeeper.
My sincere apologies Karius. You're right. A failed manager hasn't a clue. I won't copy your great fan , pundit and club legend again.
Liverpool will host West Ham United in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
