Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink believes Jose Mourinho’s outstanding management record is putting the boss under more pressure at Manchester United.
The Red Devils head coach has endured a tough start to his Old Trafford career after the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid boss took over the reins from Louis van Gaal in the summer.
Mourinho has led Manchester United to just two victories in their last 11 Premier League games to leave the 20-time English champions a staggering 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.
Manchester United have remarkably succumbed to 1-1 stalemates in their last three Premier League outings following draws with Arsenal, West Ham United and Everton.
Former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink attempted to explain the criticism surrounding Mourinho since taking charge of the Premier League’s most-successful club.
“Why are we on his back this much? It’s because what he’s done previously in his career. He has been so good. It’s the expectation. It’s high. It is Jose Mourinho,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports News HQ.
“We’ve had the best of him in the past. Everyone is thinking he is going to do it easily with Manchester United. It’s a bigger job.”
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson stood down in 2013 after his 13th top-flight success.
