Michael Owen has had his say about the Manchester United squad following their stuttering start to life under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss to Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday night as Mourinho’s side continue to struggle for consistent form under their new manager.
United are now winless in four games in the Premier League, and their Europa League hopes are now dangling by a thread.
Much has been made of United’s slow start to the season, and Owen delivered his verdict on the Red Devils’ starting 11 after Thursday’s disappointing defeat in Turkey.
Asked to run through the United starting line-up, Owen said on BT Sport: “Taking away the goalkeeper, Marcos Rojo is not good enough, full stop.
“Paul Pogba cost a king’s ransom and has not found his feet yet.
“Wayne Rooney’s confidence is a big issue. He’s not going to get any better now.
“Anthony Martial – last season, great but is he doing anything now?
“I like Daley Blind as a footballer but I’m not sure if he’s a centre-half, whether he’s quick enough or strong enough.
“Marcus Rashford’s a young kid. Ander Herrera cost a lot of money as well.
“I don’t know where Luke Shaw’s gone.
“Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian – I’m not sure if they’re good enough. That’s the starting 11 and there are not many positives.”
Manchester United must now dust themselves down and prepare for their Premier League trip to Swansea City on Sunday afternoon as they bid to return to winning ways in the top flight.
