Emile Heskey says he is a big fan of Liverpool signings Sadio Mane and Joel Matip.
Jurgen Klopp signed the Senegal international in a £30m deal from their Premier League rivals Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Matip completed a transfer to Liverpool from Bundesliga side Schalke 04 in July after the Cameroon international agreed to a deal in principle in February.
Mane had scored three goals and has made one assist in his opening eight Premier League games ahead of the visit of West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
His centre-halve colleague Matip helped the Reds keep their first clean sheet of the season in a goalless draw with bitter rivals Manchester United on Monday night.
Former Liverpool striker Heskey singled out Mane and Matip for special praise as he assessed the Merseyside club’s progress under Klopp.
“Sadio Mane looks like a brilliant signing. He has been very impressive and, along with Joel Matip, just what Liverpool needed. Matip seems very mature and like he will develop in to a great centre-half,” Heskey told Four Four Two as quoted by The Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table last season after Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in October.
