Jamie Carragher cleared David Luiz of any blame for Chelsea’s poor defending on Saturday evening as Antonio Conte’s side lost 3-0 at Arsenal.
The former Liverpool defender was critical of the Brazil international’s performance in the west London side’s 4-2 victory over Leicester City in the League Cup third round on Tuesday night.
However, it was Gary Cahill who endured a forgettable Saturday evening at the Emirates Stadium after the England defender’s poor back pass teed up Alexis Sanchez to break the deadlock with a deft finish over Thibaut Courtois.
The former Bolton Wanderers defender was caught out in similar fashion in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium earlier this month which ended their 100 per cent start to the 2016-17 season.
Chelsea’s misery was compounded three minutes later when Theo Walcott doubled the home side’s advantage before Cahill and his Chelsea colleagues were powerless to prevent Mesut Ozil from adding a third before half-time.
And ex-Liverpool defender Carragher admitted that it was Cahill and not Luiz who was at fault against Arsene Wenger’s side.
No it's Cahill today! Luiz not great for the two Leicester goals midweek though!! https://t.co/5vSh8WvJNa
