Joel Edmundson signs four -year contract with the Montreal Canadiens

The deal has an average annual value of $3.5 million. The Canadiens acquired Edmundson from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick last Saturday.

Edmundson posted seven goals, 20 points, 72 penalty minutes, 91 blocks, and 118 hits in 68 games last season. Edmundson is projected to join Montreal’s top-four defense group in 2020-21. 

In five seasons in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues and the Hurricanes, Edmundson amassed 72 points (20 goals, 52 assists) in 337 regular season games while serving 320 penalty minutes and posting a +25 differential. He has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 53 playoff games, notably helping the St. Louis Blues hoist the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2018-19 season.
