Inter’s Scudetto Hopes End With Lazio Draw

Inter’s Scudetto dreams all all but over after a 0-0 Draw against Lazio at San Siro on Saturday. A fourth successive Serie A match without a win has seen the gap to leaders Napoli grown to seven points.

The only person who seemed happy with the performance on Saturday was Inter boss Luciano Spalletti, who insisted afterwards that he is happy with what has team has produced so far this season, including Saturday’s goalless effort.

“Today, we approached the match in the right way with strength, conviction and the correct mentality” said Spalletti.

“I expected what my team has shown so far, it’s been a good first half of the season.

“We had our chances. Strakosha made two good saves from Perisic and Borja.

“For me, Inter played a good game and I offer my compliments to the players.

“I liked how Joao Mario and Dalbert did when they came on.

“Ranocchia and Cancelo were excellent today.

“Perisic? He didn’t score but he did well, he has character and a good mentality.”

Since drawing in Turin, Inter have been really poor, but Spalletti does not seem to see that adding:

“If we had two draws against Udinese and Sassuolo, which is what we deserved, then people would be talking about a stratospheric first half of the season for Inter.

“We have 41 points and I’d be more than happy to notch up 41 in the second half of the season too.”

Since when did an Inter coach settle for 82 points? Last season that point total would have been good for only fourth place. Inter fans have higher aspirations than top four finish. Their coach needs to also.
