Vidic: ‘I Didn’t Get On With Mancini’

The announcement that Manchester United Defender Nemanja Vidic was signing for Inter in 2014 was greeted by much fanfare by Nerazzurri fans everywhere.

But Vidic never settled into the three man defence that Walter Mazzarri was playing and even when Roberto Mancini took over, Vidic continued to fail to impress. Then injuries took there toll and the Serbian defender quietly retired from football in January 2015.

In an interview to FourFourTwo, Vidic spoke about his time at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and why his move to Italy went all wrong:

“The club was in a period of transition as happened at United,” Vidic explained.

“Maybe it was even more evident. When I arrived seven or eight players left, and they were important ones like [Diego] Milito, [Javier] Zanetti and [Esteban] Cambiasso.

“We played with three at the back, I was in the middle and it was like I had to solve all the problems.

“Then with Mancini’s arrival it didn’t go well, I was out for two or three months and we didn’t have a good relationship.

“Then I got injured. That’s basically what happened in my time at Milan.”
