Roberto Mancini did is best to put a positive spin on a putrid Inter display against Spurs, calling for his side to knuckle down and work on getting better after they were beaten 6-1 in Oslo on Friday evening.
“Nobody likes losing, especially 6-1,” acknowledged Mancini. “Despite the result, however, the first half was excellent. It was the first time we’d had all the players together and they did some good things.
“From the 50-minute mark onwards we made too many errors and the final scoreline is the product of that. It’s never nice to lose, but I prefer playing against the good sides. Leaving the result to one side, it’s always better to play quality teams.”
There were some positives for the Inter manager, including the sight of Ever Banega chipping in with an assist for Ivan Perisic: ”
Banega is a player than needs freedom on the pitch. He’s a quality player and we need those runs from deep to get us goals. It was the first time the team had played together and they can get better through hard work.”
Looking ahead to the 2016/17 campaign, Mancini was confident that the Nerazzurri can do better than last year:
“Next season we want to improve on fourth place and that’s within our capabilities. We need to work hard to make sure our fitness is right so we can perform well.”
