Reports are coming out of England and Italy that Premier League side West Ham United are lining up a €35m offer for Inter striker Mauro Icardi.
This is not the first time that the Nerazzurri captain has been linked with a move to Enngland. Arsenal are reportedly long time admirers of the Inter star.
According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham want to flex their financial muscle in time for the inauguration of their new 60,000 seater stadium in the Olympic Park and that they are prepared to smash their own transfer record with a €35m bid for the Inter talisman.
My response to that, is who much are they willing to pay for his other leg?
The 23-year-old striker was joint top goalscorer in Serie A last season and this season his 16 goals place him third in the scoring race.
Icardi’s personal life often overshadows how good a player he is, and even better he will be as Inter improve. He has scored 43 goals in 78 games over the last two seasons for Inter in all competions. A more than respectable rate of return considering how few chances Inter have created over that time period.
At the moment the Philippe Coutinho transfer was the worst deal of a young talented Inter player in years. Some would argue that when Inter sold the Brazilian they did not know how good he would become. Everyone knows how good Icardi is, and selling him for €35m is practically given him away.
Icardi is worth over €50m in today’s transfer market, and even then I would have to think long and hard about accepting it, and Inter would have to spend almost that amount to get another top striker to replace him.
