Mercato: Will Icardi Be In Red And Black Next Season?

Former Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has returned to Italy from his loan spell at PSG declaring that he does not want to live in Paris. He wants to live and play in Italy.

That is a problem for Inter as Antonio Conte does not want the striker, but it appears that cross-time rivals AC Milan could possibly present a solution for Icardi and Inter.

Icardi did what he does best at PSG and that is score goals. The 27-year-old managed 20 goals this in all competitions for Paris.

Icardi has been linked with a move to Inter’s other rivals, Juventus for the last year or so, but the Nerazzurri are reluctant to sell, arguably Serie A’s best finisher to a title rival.

According to Corriere Dello Sport say Milan may are trying to capitalize on this, with Icardi representing ‘the real leader Milan need, who makes a difference on the pitch.’

The theory is that Icardi enjoyed his best season under current Milan boss Luciano Spalletti, when he scored 29 goals during the 2017-18 season. Icardi won the Capocannoniere jointly with Lazio’s Ciro Immobile, breaking his previous record of 24 goals set in the previous season; he also become the first Inter player to reach this tally since Antonio Angelillo during the 1958–59 season.

Omitted from that narrative was the bitter battle between Icardi and Spalletti last season when there was a very public and unsavoury fallout between the player, the club and then manager Lucaino Spaletti. Icardi didn’t play in the Inter first team for almost two months, from February until April.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter have put a €85m price tag on any Italian side hoping to sign Icardi, but that was in a pre-coronavirus transfer market.

No Serie A club is going to pay that sort of money on a player this summer, and unless Inter can find another destination for Icardi (Chelsea?) then they might have to accept a lot less if they want to move Icardi somewhere else this summer.

Can you see Mauro Icardi playing for AC Milan next season?
