Mercato: Inter Turn Down Option On Alexis Sanchez

Not a surprise to hear that Inter are reportedly set to turn down the chance to extend Alexis Sanchez’s loan deal following what has been a disappointing season for the Manchester United player.

The 31-year-old has started just two Serie A matches during an injury-hit campaign and with there being serious doubt as to if the seasons will restart, Inter are ready to cut their losses on a player who looks a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal.

Antonio Conte has decided that he does not want him and Beppe Marotta is not interested in signing a 31-year-old for €20m, who is on €500,000-a-week.

Inter knew it was a gamble to take Sanchez on loan, but Conte and Marotta felt it was worth it, because all Inter had to pay was the €5m loan fee, as the Chile internationals wages were paid by Manchester United.

Those astronomical wages mean that Sanchez became the highest paid player per minute played to have ever played in Italy. Sanchez played just 596 minutes for Inter this season, at a huge cost of €7,314 per minute played.

There appears to be no future for Sanchez at Manchester United, or seemingly in any of the Big Five league, That leaves China, Major League Soccer or a return back to South America as the possibly destinations for the former Barcelona player.
