Marotta: ‘Juve v Inter On Monday Is Unacceptable’

Inter chief Beppe Marotta has hit back at Lega Serie A President Paolo Dal Pino over allegations that the Nerazzurri didn’t want to play Juventus on Monday Evening.

“It was an unacceptable proposal for three reasons.”

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Dal Pino relayed his version of events, in which he stated that it was Inter who shot down the idea of moving the Derby d’Italia from Sunday to Monday evening, when the government-imposed quarantine would’ve been lifted.

Marotta spoke to Italian news agency ANSA about Dal Pino’s comments.

“We received an informal and random proposal from the CEO of the league Luigi De Siervo to play on Monday evening that we didn’t even want to consider because we consider it impractical and almost provocative,” said Marotta.

“In respect to Inter and the millions of Nerazzurri fans as well as millions of football fans in general, we considered this proposal unacceptable for three reasons.

“Firstly, it would have gone against the logic of protecting public health, in fact assuming the disappearance of the Coronavirus within 48 hours.

“Then because the stadium would have been open only to Juventus fans, with all the consequent controversies, without the presence of our fans, which would have resulted in an unacceptable disparity.

“The third, because the shifting of Juve-Inter would also have led to the moving of the Coppa Italia semi final between Juve and Milan to Thursday, the same day as Napoli-Inter.”
