One of the worst kept secrets in football is that Jiangsu Suning striker Roger Martinez will be joining Inter in the summer where the 22-year-old is expected to be serve as a backup to Mauro Icardi.

It was with the help of Inter Sporting director Piero Ausilio, thay Jiangsu signed the young striker for a reported napped €9m. The Colombian has been in sensational form in China scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 17 appearances.

When Martinez signed for Jiangsu Suning, his agent hinted that China was just a stopover on his way to Milan:

“He will go to Inter later, but not now,” agent Fernando Lopez told Radio El Sol.

Inter need to find a backup for Icardi, especially if we get Champions League football next season. We cannot expect him to play 60 games next season.

Finding some quality and depth up-front has been something that Pioli has been pushing for since he took over from de Boer. Consider that his attacking options behind Icardi were Stevan Jovetic, Rodrigo Palacio, Eder and Gabigol.

Next season Jovetic, Palacio and Eder will be replaced by Martinez, Andrea Pinamonti and another signing. That is a young attacking trio that could dominate Serie A and Europe for years to come.
