MATCH PREVIEW: Liverpool V Exeter

Image via theguardian.com
Liverpool welcome Exeter to Anfield on Wednesday evening as both sides prepare themselves for an important FA Cup replay. After playing the kids in the first clash between the two sides, Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he may well play the youngsters again.

Injuries

Injuries for Liverpool mean they are unable to call upon Philippe Coutinho, Martin Skrtel and Dejan Lovren. It would be unlikely however for that trio to feature in what could be another unfamiliar XI fielded by the Reds. For Exeter Paul Tisdale has little to worry about in terms of injuries after seeing several key players return in the fixture at St James' Park, it is expected that the manager will field another strong team.

Previous Meetings

The last time the two sides met was of course on 8th January, Jerome Sinclair and Brad Smith were on the scoresheet that day and Liverpool for a vast proportion of the game looked like they were going out of the competition.

Exeter have visited Anfield on three occasions in history and have never picked up a win. They did however get on the score sheet in 1950 but lost the game 3-1.

Form

Liverpool come into this game on the back of a very disappointing loss to Manchester United, the Reds perhaps didn't deserve to lose the game but the inability to convert despite having stacks of chances was shocking. The bonus of this match I suppose is that if Klopp does play the youngsters they are hungry and have something to prove so hopefully they will find the back of the net.

Exeter's last game in League 2 was against Leyton Orient, Paul Tisdale's side picked up their first win in seven games in the league, winning the match 3-1.

Stat Sandwich
  • Liverpool have a league average of 1.14 goals per match this season compared to Exeter's league average of 1.35.
  • Exeter's top scorer is Tom Nichols with nine goals in the league.
  • Liverpool have failed to find the back of the net in four of their last 10 games in the league.
Betting

I am hoping that Liverpool will get past Exeter on Wednesday but I can't pretend that I'm confident, it's also hard to decide what to bet on because I'm not sure what the team is going to be but keep an eye on Twitter and I'll let you know where I put my money.

Paddy Power are offering odds of 22/1 for Liverpool to qualify via a penalty shootout. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the game ended up going that far!

In terms of goalscorers, if you fancy Exeter to find the back of the net first Tom Nichols is down at 12/1.

For scorelines, if you think the game could end in the same fashion as last time then you can find odds of 18/1 for a 2-2 result.

Remember, if you sign up with Paddy Power below and bet a full £10 on one bet they will give you £30 free!
