Injurious to Indian cricket team’s health?

It did not come as a shock to me when I heard that Indian team was carrying a host of players with injuries and one was known to everyone (Zaheer Khan) and it did surprise me that this came to light (now!??). Because the happenings of the team does not get leaked out much and some remain as rumours till they die down a natural death and the most recent being the ‘alleged’ rift between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virendra Sehwag. Both are matured and have been in the team for the last few years and played in all forms of the game and it was quite disturbing to have read about rifts between them and even amongst members in the team.

The rumours only multiply once the performance of the team goes down and our team’s performance did not dip but nose-dived in the World Cup. With the Report coming out that team physio had sent a report before the WC that players including Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, RP Singh, Sehwag and Zaheer Khan were carrying injuries which required treatment and was overlooked by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India).

But the report fell on blind selectors who thought that the above mentioned players will regain fitness and selected them in Squad. In the report by Nitin Patel, team physio stated that Dhoni was suffering from a back injury while Sehwag, Yuvi and Zaheer were sporting shoulder niggles and RP Singh suffered from a niggle in his ankle.

This should not surprise many as players tend to take things lightly in the pretext that their injury will be fine in the course of time and Ashish Nehra (back in the squad after 5 years) will be able to define the terms injury-heal-time better than anyone.

Interestingly, Dhoni, RP is still there in the squad for the West Indies while Zaheer has been rested thankfully. I do not understand the rationale behind playing a semi-fit player whose performance 9 out of ten times will not be up to the mark and why not have the audacity to try out other players. While Sehwag was sent out of squad—-Dhoni, Yuvraj and others played a part in the WC debacle.

WHY DONT BCCI SELECT A FIT SQUAD? IS IT THAT DIFFICULT FOR THEM….

Talks of player fatigue have only fallen on deaf selectors. Guess, we move 2 steps ahead and take 4 steps backward.
