BETTING ANALYSIS For AUSTRALIA
Australia and Glenn Maxwell stunned the cricketing world on Tuesday in Mumbai. Reduced to 91/7 chasing 292 to overcome Afghanistan, the notoriously big-hitting Maxwell played the innings of his life, smashing 201 not out from 128 balls in a perfectly timed yet brutal knock. Sharing an unbroken 202-run partnership with his skipper Pat Cummins, Maxwell carried Australia to a famous win, which sealed their semi-final spot and a clash with South Africa at the same venue next Wednesday.
After suffering throughout that magical innings with a sore back and cramp, Maxwell probably won’t play against Bangladesh, so bettors shouldn’t look to invest in him here. Instead, consider David Warner, as he’ll be desperate for a big score to finish the group stage after accruing just 29 runs from his last two appearances. If veteran opener Warner can survive the first ten overs of Australia’s batting innings, then he should go on and record a significant total, so consider the stakes on Warner to score 50+ runs (2.25) and 100+ runs (5.00) via the ‘Batter Milestones’ market.
Be sure to wait until the Australian team line-up is released before making any moves, with rotation a potential factor now that they are safely through to the semi-finals. Adam Zampa, though, is firmly in the race to end this World Cup as the highest wicket-taker, and that alone should see him play against Bangladesh. Zampa averages well over two wickets per game, with 20 wickets in total across eight appearances. The leg-spinner is well worthy of investment, specifically to finish as Australia’s top bowler (3.75), but also to take 3+ wickets (2.62).
BETTING ANALYSIS For BANGLADESH
Bangladesh successfully chased down 280 with three wickets remaining against Sri Lanka in their most recent group match, which leaves them in a position where only a heavy defeat would see them finish lower than eighth place and not qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy unless the Netherlands stun India on Sunday. The Tigers are, therefore, expected to deploy a conservative style of cricket here with an emphasis on batting out their 50 overs. However, they’ll be without captain Shakib Al Hasan, the all-rounder who fractured a finger.
Their triumph over Sri Lanka saw a timely return to form for Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had endured a hugely disappointing World Cup prior to his match-winning knock of 90. Shanto demonstrated his quality before this tournament at the 2023 Asia Cup and now that he is back in form, it would be no surprise to see him back it up with another sizable score. Back Shanto to accumulate over 21.5 runs (1.83) but also consider a smaller stake on him to finish as Bangladesh’s top batter (5.50) for a second match running.
However, Tanzid Hasan continues to struggle for runs at the top of the order, dismissed for just 9 last time out in an opening partnership of just 17. His poor run of scores can be taken advantage of by bettors, with Bangladesh consistently unable to establish a significant first-wicket-partnership as a result. Utilise the Team–Opening Partnership Total market and Bangladesh to add under 20.5 runs (1.90) for the first wicket here.
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
While the stakes are significantly higher for Bangladesh compared to Australia heading into this fixture, the latter will no doubt be determined to carry their momentum straight through to the semi-finals, maintaining that ‘win at all costs’ mentality that they need if they are to lift a sixth 50-over World Cup crown. This doesn’t bode well for the Tigers, especially without the services of their captain.
If a good batter can play themselves at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, then the pitch tends to get easier to bat on as the ball becomes softer. In the four matches played on this ground already during this tournament, we’ve seen four hundred scores, including two in one match. Most recently, England’s Ben Stokes took the Netherlands apart here on Wednesday, smashing 108 from just 84 balls. When taking this into account, along with the batting quality at Australia’s disposal, it would be a surprise if we didn’t see a player from Pat Cummins’ side reach three figures in this final 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup encounter to take place in Pune.
