KEY BETTING STATS
- Victory against the Netherlands would see India end the group stage of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup with a perfect record of nine wins from nine matches – To Win the Match.
- Virat Kohli has scored 70+ runs in four of India’s last five 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup group stage matches – Batter Milestones.
- Netherlands have recorded a lower opening partnership than that of their opponents in each of their last three 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup group stage matches – Highest Opening Partnership.
BETTING ANALYSIS For INDIA
Despite knowing who their semi-final opponents will be prior to this match, India will only be focused on the Netherlands with the vast experience within their squad, ensuring no complacency in their bid to seal a 100% group stage record of nine victories. Prasidh Krishna has been called into the India squad as vice-captain Hardik Pandya will not recover from injury in time to feature in the knockout stage. Krishna could be given a chance to play here should India wish to rest any of their pace bowlers, such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, or Mohammed Shami. Bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur will also be hoping for a potential recall.
Should Shami be named in the starting lineup here, then investment in him has to be favored when considering the 33-year-old’s recent brilliant form with the ball. Boasting 16 wickets across four group stage appearances, including two five-wicket-hauls, backing Shami to accrue over 3+ wickets (2.62) against Netherlands feels like a no-brainer. As does a stake on him to finish as India’s top bowler (3.60).
However, when considering how the Netherlands collapsed against England’s spin-bowling duo of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali last time out, losing six wickets to the pair, it may also prove another profitable occasion for Ravindra Jadeja, who is coming off the back of 5/33 vs South Africa a week ago. Back the left-arm spinner to gain 3+ wickets (4.00), also via the ‘Bowler Milestones’ market.
You could name a number of Indian batters capable of big scores in this contest, but all eyes are once again likely to be on Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bangalore star is ensured of an incredible reception on his IPL home ground, and with 387 runs accumulated across his last five World Cup innings, including two hundreds, most will be expecting another big innings from the Indian superstar. Multiple markets appeal for bettors looking to invest in Kohli, and it may prove a wise move to back him both to score a match fifty (2.00) and to score a match hundred (3.75).
BETTING ANALYSIS For NETHERLANDS
Although expectations are understandably low for the Netherlands heading into this encounter, they have huge motivation to try and cause the biggest surprise of the tournament so far. Not only is this an opportunity for all of their players to put themselves in the franchise shop window with the world watching, but an unlikely win would see them qualify for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, provided either Bangladesh and/or England lose their final group game on Saturday.
The big issue from the Netherlands’ perspective has been their lack of runs. It’s hard to see that changing here when taking into account the sheer class of India’s bowling resources. Openers Wesley Barresi and Max O’Dowd face an unenviable challenge against the new ball, whether they are batting first or second. Consider backing Barresi to score under 17.5 runs (1.83) and O’Dowd under 19.5 runs (1.83) via the ‘Batter Match Runs’ market.
It would be a surprise if India weren’t to take an early wicket, so an additional stake on the Netherlands to record a first-wicket partnership of under 18.5 (1.90) runs has to be backed as well. Value can also be found in Bas de Leede, who has been a reliable wicket-taker for his nation. Three of the Netherlands’ last four matches have seen de Leede take over 1.5 wickets, so explore backing him to do the same again here (4.00).
CRICKET 8’S EXPERT PREDICTION
India is rightly expected to record a commanding win in this, the final group stage fixture of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. They are a far superior team in all departments, with world-class players throughout their squad. Even if the host nation does rest a selection of their top stars, they should still prove far too good for the Netherlands. However, backing them just to win this game offers little to no value.
Instead, it’s Virat Kohli who should once again draw your attention. It would be a massive surprise if he weren’t to play on a ground that means so much to him, and his pursuit of both Quinton de Kock and Rachin Ravindra in the battle to finish as the tournament’s highest run-scorer will motivate him to the extreme. With this in mind, expect another show-stopping innings from ‘King Kohli’ in front of his adoring public.
