The Steelers Get Off to the Perfect Start in 2020

After the opening three game weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers are undefeated with a perfect record of three wins from three. The six-time Super Bowl champions are hoping to continue the win streak for as long as possible, but how have the games so far played out that have seen them start the season so well?

The Steelers 2020 Opening Three Games

Game 1 vs New York Giants

The opening game week of the 2020 regular season saw the Steelers win at home over the New York Giants. Ben Roethlisberger made his first Steelers appearance at Quarterback since his elbow injury suffered in game week 2 in the 2019 season. After a slightly slow start, Roethlisberger grew well into the game and made three passing touchdowns and completed 21 of 32 passes for 229 yards. The Steelers controlled the majority of the game and ended up running out 26-16 winners over the Giants.

Game 2 vs Denver Broncos

In game week 2, the Steelers were up against the three-time Super Bowl winners Denver Broncos and came out 26-21 victors. The Steelers comfortably controlled the first two quarters, with touchdowns from Conner and Claypool contributing to giving Pittsburgh a half time lead of 17-3. The Broncos began to make a comeback in the 3rd quarter as a field goal and a touchdown with a two-point conversion brought them back into touching distance of the Steelers. With the score at 17-14 going into the final quarter, Pittsburgh managed to regain control with a touchdown and safety, before the Broncos added what turned out to be a consolation touchdown to bring the final score to 26-21. The Steelers looked good in parts but will have been thankful that the Broncos were without key players such as Von Miller and Phillip Lindsay.

Game 3 vs Houston Texans

After going 2-0 in the opening two gameweeks, the Steelers came up against the Texans in gameweek 3. It was a testing start for Pittsburgh, as the Texans were up 14-3 by the start of the 2nd quarter. The Steelers were able to rally themselves and pull two touchdowns back through Ebron and Smith-Schuster, only for the Texans to regain the lead just before half time, meaning the score was 21-17 to Houston at the end of the 2nd quarter. In the 3rd and 4th quarters, the Steelers showed their resilience and got their rewards with a rushing touchdown from James Conner in the final quarter which proved to be the last score of the game.

Best Start in 10 Years

It’s the first time in 10 years that the Steelers won their opening three games, and the opening three games of the 2020 season have shown why according to the NFL odds on bet365, the Steelers are one of the top eight favorites for the Super Bowl.

Can the Run Continue?

The Steelers have shown signs of how they can be a strong team for the 2020 campaign, and after a relatively comfortable first two games, they were able to overcome a significant deficit against the Texans. There are certainly aspects to work on, but confidence is key and this perfect start will give Pittsburgh a huge boost for the upcoming games.
