Manchester City planning surprising move for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney

Tags:

As per a recent report, Manchester City is preparing a surprise bid to sign Kieran Tierney, the Arsenal defender, during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Kieran Tierney joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Celtic. After recovering from an injury he sustained during his time in Scotland, he became a crucial member of the Arsenal squad.

In June 2020, Kieran Tierney was awarded Arsenal's Player of the Month, and he also played in the starting XI for their FA Cup final victory against Chelsea in the same year.

Injuries have plagued Kieran Tierney over the past few seasons, and as a result, he has fallen behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the left-back pecking order for Arsenal this term.

Kieran Tierney has had some success adapting to the inverted wing-back role, similar to what Oleksandr Zinchenko plays, but he has only started one Premier League game in 2023.

According to reports, Manchester City, who are title rivals of Arsenal, are considering making a move for Kieran Tierney in the upcoming transfer window.

Football Insider reports that City is currently examining the terms of an agreement that would result in Tierney transferring to the Etihad Stadium during the upcoming summer.

It is claimed that the Scottish left-back is purportedly receptive to a fresh challenge and might view the prospect of playing for Pep Guardiola's team as the perfect destination.

Furthermore, Arsenal are said to value Tierney at around £30 million, which could be a figure that sees him leave the club this summer.

But Newcastle have also been heavily linked with the 25-year-old, and the potential lure of Champions League football plus the promise of more regular football than at City may sway him to accept any offer from Eddie Howe's side.

The Sun claimed last week that the Magpies are 'confident' of sealing a deal for the left-back, and he could be Howe's first signing of the summer as the club prepare to take part in European competition for the first time since the 2012/13 season.

Their 4-1 win over Everton on Thursday means they are in third position in the Premier League, eight points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham with six games to play.
