What is own goal

An own goal, also called self goal, is where a player performs actions that result in them or their team scoring a goal on themselves, often resulting in a point for the opposing team, such as when a soccer player kicks a ball into their own net or goal, awarding the other team a point. Wikipedia

In 2021, the Premier League saw its 1000th own goal scored when Tottenham's Sergio Reguilon put one past his own goalkeeper.

With so many scored, The e360hubs takes a look at the players, teams and season most affiliated with own goals.

The unfortunate honour for most Premier League own goals scored by a single player goes to Richard Dunne.

Dunne is currently well clear in the Premier League own-goal standings with the closest active player, Jonny Evans, still four shy of his record.

Brighton's Lewis Dunk scored the most Premier League own goals in a single season with four of his five coming in the 2017-18 season alone.

With four own goals already scored after a single Premier League round in 2022-23, could this season see the most ever?
