Pictures: Suarez mobbed by fanatical Nacional fans on his return to his boyhood club

World-renowned striker Luis Suarez has returned to the team where it all began 17 years later.

Suarez, now 35 years old, most recently completed a two year spell with La Liga powerhouse Atletico Madrid.

Suarez has appeared over 130 times for the Uruguayan national team, scoring 68 goals.

Proceeding this Suarez enjoyed stints at Liverpool, Ajax, and most notably Barcelona.

Throughout his career Suarez has won an outstanding 18 trophies while showing class and prowess as a goal scorer.

A player of this class choosing to return to the Uruguayan Primera to finish his career while he still has something left in the tank understandably excites even the most out of touch Nacional fans.

Even without the addition of Suarez Nacional have long been one of the most dominant clubs in Uruguayan soccer. The club have won the League an astonishing 36 times and finished as runners up an equal 36 times.

Nacional's last trophy came in 2021  when they won the Uruguayan Super Cup. Their last league title came in 2020.

Adding a striker of Suarez's ability will indubitably raise expectations for next season to trophy or bust.

Aside from what happens during his reunion with Nacional Suarez will always be remembered for his time terrorizing opposing defenses.

Suarez will likely be remembered by most for his dominate spell at Barcelona where he not only put up the best numbers of his career but was part of arguably the best attacking trio in modern soccer in recent memory.

The trio of Suarez, Lionel Messi, and Neymar once formed what was once referred to as the holy trinity of forwards.

Suarez and friends would go on to win four Spanish Cups, two Spanish Super Cups, one Champions League title, and five La Liga titles.

Suarez also lead La Liga with an outstanding 40 goals during his highest scoring season at Camp Nou Stadium.

During his other European adventures Suarez won the English League Cup with Liverpool during the 2012 season and lead the English Premier League with 31 goals the following season.

While playing with Ajax Suarez also won a Dutch league title and Dutch Cup.
