Jos Verstappen Reveals Why Sergio Perez Won Saudi Arabia GP And Not Max Verstappen

Apart from the official on-track discussions, Formula One always brings some off-track dramas. The F1 show is one of a kind because it involves not only the spectators or the drivers, it involves their entire team, not to mention their families too. Recently, after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen’s father, Jos Verstappen, whose son finished the Jeddah Corniche circuit in the second position, has become a part of the spotlight. He somehow tried to take a sly dig at Sergio Perez, who won the race starting from the pole.

It seems like not only Max but also his father, Jos, is not satisfied with the result of the weekend. Team Red Bull got what it wanted, a one-two victory. But personally, max could not achieve his goals. For anyone, a driver starting from P15 and ending up on P2 is a matter of amazement. This is something that the legends do. Max definitely did a great job, despite facing reliability issues with the RB19; he succeeded in battling all of them and got the P2. But, the fact that P2 is not the first, and the second is always a loser to the first, makes Max not so happy with Saudi Arabian GP’s outcome.

“Sergio Perez Do Not Win That Often,” Said Jos Verstappen, Degrading Him

Meanwhile, Jos Verstappen, who trained Max to be a winner every time, claims that Perez would not have won the race if he had to battle with his son. According to him, the only reason why Sergio Perez won the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is that Max Verstappen did not start the race from the pole. It’s a fact Perez does not win the races often, and Red Bull knows it too. So those who started comparing Checo to Verstappen just looking at one race’s performance shouldn’t do the same, as suggested by the 51-year-old.

Apparently, Jos could see things coming Max’s way at Jeddah. He believed that there were many chances that undoubtedly would have declared Max Verstappen the winner. But since he started from P15, the reality remained different from what he expected. As mentioned by Formule1.nl, Sr. Verstappen said, “Perez sees that [he doesn’t get chances that often]. And then goes for it.

Red Bull RB19

Speaking of Max Verstappen, his father believes that the driveshaft issue of the Red Bull car cost him to lose the second race of the season. During the qualifying session, Max’s car was hit by a reliability issue, and he failed to make a good position. But this does not prevent the two-time world champion from showing what he got. He still outstandingly finished the race just 5 seconds behind the winner. But what if there had been no driveshaft? Max would have won, not Sergio Perez. So the credit for Checo’s win goes to the issues of Verstappen’s car, according to Jos.

Max’s Father Did Not Even Move When Everyone Was Shaken By Checo’s Victory celebration.

These claims of the Dutchman are very negative for the Mexican Red Bull driver. Checo indeed dominated the entire grid. No one dared to challenge him. It was not just his luck, he worked for it, and he earned the victory, no matter who was or was not at the back.

Jos Not Moving While Sergio Celebrates

Also, a picture of Jos getting viral from Jeddah, where he stands still when Sergio Perez celebrates, hugs, and cheers with the other Red Bull people just beside him. Max’s father was unmoved. God knows if he even congratulated Checo for the win, which he thought his son should have won. Because he was not happy, and It was transparent.
