Wake With Elias- Sept 19/19: Canucks hit the road to take on the Oilers tonight.

NHL: Preseason-Edmonton Oilers at Vancouver CanucksAnne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Preseason Game #4 for the Canucks as they head to Edmonton to take on the Oilers tonight.

As the Canucks hit the road for the first of two road games starting tonight in Edmonton, they have sent three players down to Utica to join the Comets training camp. No surprises here as Jonah Gadjovich, Vincent Arsenault and Michael DiPietro weren’t going to stick with the parent squad.

A fairly experienced Top 6, plus Jacob Markstrom getting his first preseason action for the Canucks tonight. Brogan Rafferty draws in again after sitting the Tuesday night contest, paired with Oscar Fantenberg.

This means that players battling for spots are gonna get at least this game to make an impression on Travis Green and Jim Benning, with the Canucks still needing to cut another 20 to get to the 23 man limit for the start of the season. I would imagine that Reid Boucher, Kole Lind and Loui Eriksson all get a ton of icetime tonight.

They’ll go up against almost the same Oilers lineup that they defeated on Tuesday night:

While that D should be a little better than the one the Canucks faced on Tuesday, that’s still an awful lot of AHL talent up front.

Meanwhile, as the Canucks try to make decisions in terms of some players, Elliotte Friedman says they may be shopping as many as 5 players right now, to make room for some youngsters that have earned a spot and/or clear up cap space.
