2018 NHL Playoffs Round 2- Open Thread May 4/18

Pittsburgh and Nashville come up big to tie their Series up at 2-2, can the Bruins do the same tonight?

PITTSBURGH 3 WASHINGTON 1- (series tied 2-2)

Jake Guentzel scored twice and Evgeni Malkin got the eventual winner on a 2nd period PP as the Penguins drew even with the Capitals last night. Guentzel now has 10 goals in this year’s playoff. How in the heck does he continue to do this every year in the post-season (spoiler alert: Sidney Crosby might be a huge factor in this)? TJ Oshie got the lone goal for the Caps and also dished out a particularly shitty hit, especially in light of his recent comments re: the Tom Wilson suspension.

Not a good look. Game 5 goes Saturday in DC.

NASHVILLE 2 WINNIPEG 1 (Series tied 2-2)

After a fairly monumental choke in Game 3, the Preds made some adjustments and played a defensively smothering game, giving the Jets time and space and hung on to take a 2-1 win and head back to Nashville for game 5 tied 2-2. PK Subban was huge in this one, and here’s a tip for Winnipeg’s fans: booing him only makes him stronger. Seriously. You should probably just shutup because it’s like air to him. Patrik Laine scored a late PP goal to make it close, but after Tuesday’s goal bonanza, the Jets came out of this one pretty frustrated.

TAMPA BAY @ BOSTON- 7:00 EDT/4:00 PDT (CBC) (Lightning lead series 2-1)

The Bruins need to find a way to get through Tampa’s defence if they don’t want to head back to Florida for an elimination game Sunday. The Lightning have done a heck of a job after turning in a stinker of a performance in Game 1, and been full credit for taking the lead in the series. Balanced scoring, tight defensive play and not getting sucked into calls by the Bruins, who are growing increasingly frustrated, not to mention great goaltending from Andrei Vasilevskiy could see the Bolts through to the next round. Best keep your heads on a swivel around Marchand and Backes tonight, though.

SAN JOSE @ VEGAS- 10:00 EDT/7:00 PDT (CBC) (Series tied 2-2)

After battling back from a disappointing OT loss in Game 3, the Sharks stunned everyone by making the Golden Knights look like mere mortals. This series may be tied, but momentum’s definitely swung San Jose’s way, and how Vegas responds will be worth watching. Can they rekindle their home ice magic? Or will a more experienced Sharks team force them into making more mistakes?
