2024 Olympic Women’s 10000m Predictions: Kenya’s Chebet Looking For Double Gold

The most grueling race held on the track at the Paris Olympics will be the women’s 10000m, a 25-lap test of will power and endurance. The favorite to win this year’s Olympic women’s 10000m is the same woman who has already won the women’s 5000m final in Beatrice Chebet. But she will face plenty of competition on this challenging event. Continue reading for our analysis and prediction for this race from the Stade de France.

Odds from Sportzino

The favorite to win the Olympic women’s 10000m is Beatrice Chebet of Kenya, who already has wone gold medal under her belt. She ran away from the field late in the women’s 5000m final, including favorite Faith Kipyegon. At a longer distance here, Chebet will be looking to use her superior gas tank late in races to her advantage to come away with a second gold medal in two middle-distance events.

Olympic Women’s 10000m Major Storylines

The potential for Chebet to come away with both the 5000m and 10000m golds in the same Olympics is certainly the biggest storyline going into this event on Friday. But there is a question about how she will perform in the 10000m, as she has not raced in this event much and has no real experience in major international events in this distance.

Another huge storyline going into this race is the second chance for Sifan Hassan to defend an Olympic title. She failed to do so in the 5000m earlier this week after winning that event in Tokyo in 2021. Now she has a chance to keep the gold in the 10000m after winning that in Tokyo as well. The question will be whether or not she can do it or if she will walk away from Paris without a single gold medal.

Olympic Women’s 10000m Medal Contenders

Chebet and Hassan are both among the top medal contenders for this race. Also included in that group of likely medalists is Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia. She won the gold in the 10000m in the 2023 World Championships and appears to be among the best-equipped to win gold in this race as well. But it would be an incredible accomplishment for any other member of the field to break through that trio for a medal in this event.

Women’s 10000m Betting Prediction: Gudaf Tsegay (+350)

While Chebet is the favorite after winning the 5000m final, we have concerns about her lack of high-profile experience in the 10k to pick her at her current price. Instead, we will go with Gudaf Tsegay, who has won this race at the international level before and should be among the last standing in what will be a punishing 10 kilometers on the track in Paris.
