Dolphins CB Trill Williams carted off the field with major injury

Miami Dolphins cornerback Trill Williams has been reported to have torn his ACL after making a tackle in Saturday’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams’ condition was reported just this week after the team had a series of tests on Sunday to determine how severe was the Injury — and from the looks of it, Miami took quite a hit as he could miss the entire season.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel via The Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds has said that Williams’ injury was “a setback” to the team, as he was likely referring to the CB’s crucial defense role for the team in the upcoming season.

“Trill Williams tore his ACL in last night’s preseason game, per source. Unfortunate injury for a player who had impressed in training camp,” as per NFL reporter Doug Kyed.

More on Williams’ injury

In the game on Saturday, Williams was trying to tackle Bucs wide receiver Deven Thompkins. The tackle was crucial as not only Thompkins was preparing for a screen pass in the late fourth quarter, but also due to the fact that Tampa Bay was closing in the scoring gap. Officials ruled out the play as a loss. However, shortly after that, Williams’ left leg was caught following the tackle and he was seen grabbing his left knee.

The 22-year-old was also seen frustrated on the ground. He tried to walk his injury off before he was carted off to the locker room. In the wake of the event, Miami disclosed details regarding Williams’ injury until further examinations on Sunday.

It was until today that reports hold the New Yorker’s injury was serious as reports hold Williams’ injury could put him away from playing a season’s worth of games.

McDaniel discussed the CB’s injury in Saturday’s press conference.

“First and foremost, you hate to see an injury like that for a guy that’s been working as diligently as Trill has. He was an example of a player early on that I could tell, in a healthy way, that he wasn’t totally happy with where he was at in terms of depth,” he said.

The head coach also added that Williams’ injury was heartbreaking news for the team, saying it hurts the “hearts of the whole team”.

“You want to talk about an example of a player handling that the right way and transferring that energy to the point where he’s been making plays daily on the ball. It’s one of the hard things about the profession that I really struggle with when I see that happen to someone,” he continued.

“At the same time, I think he’s proven time and time again that things of that nature won’t keep him back over the long haul. The challenge is to make that thing happen for a good reason and come back stronger and better. It’s something that I think hurt the hearts of the whole team, myself included.”

Before making his way to play in the NFL, Williams played the Syracuse Orange in 2018-2020. After his collegiate football ended, Williams was undrafted in the draft until the New Orleans Saints signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2021. Unfortunately, the franchise waived him three days later.

On May 17 that year, the Dolphins claimed Williams off waivers. Since his signing, Williams has not got the chance to show his potential as he only played in a single game in 2021. Preparing for the upcoming season, reports claimed that the CB made a promising result in training camps and was on track playing in the main roster.
