There are different types of ducks in cricket, depending on the circumstances of the dismissal. According to various sources, there are generally eight or nine types of ducks in cricket.

. Golden duck: when a Batsman is dismissed on the first ball of their innings.

. Silver duck: when a batsman is dismissed without scoring on the second ball of their innings.

. Bronze duck: when a batsman is dismissed without scoring on the third ball of their innings.

. Diamond duck: when a batsman is dismissed without facing a ball, usually due to a run-out.

. Royal duck: when an opening batsman is dismissed for a Duck in the first ball of the first innings of a match.

. King pair: when a batsman is dismissed for a duck in both innings of a two-innings match

. Platinum duck: when a batsman is dismissed on the first ball of the match.

. Laughing duck: when a batsman is dismissed for a duck without scoring in double digits.

. Bombay duck: a humorous term used to describe a batsman who has been dismissed for a duck several times.

The first duck in a Test match was made in the first Test, between Australia and England at Melbourne in March 1877, when Ned Gregory was caught by Andrew Greenwood off the bowling of James  Lillywhite.
