The Frenchman was awarded Liberia’s highest national honour by the player that he signed back in 1988, George Weah.
The Liberian President, the only African Man to have been named Fifa World Player of the Year, was signed by Wenger in 1988 when he was a coach for Monaco.
Criticism of the award
A number of Liberians have argued that the honour shouldn’t have been given to a person for what he had achieved for the president personally, however to somebody who has accomplished something directly for the country.
Opposition politicians have called Weah’s decision to award Wenger and Le Roy with the nation’s highest honour ‘a whole waste of time.’
