Van Dijk becomes most expensive defender

Liverpool have confirmed to have signed Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk (26) in the January transfer window.


The Dutch stopper  moves to Anfield Road foa a fee of around  £ 75 million and thus becomes the most expensive defender of all time.


The Netherlands international played for the Saints for 2 1/2 years and his impressive game put him on the radar of many top clubs, including Manchester City who were believed to be in the mix until the very end.


Reds manager Jürgen Klopp will welcome van Dijk in the hopes he can boost his currently 4th placed Liverpool team further up the table.


van Dijk will likely push Dejan Lovren out of the Liverpool Top Eleven and play alongside Joel Matip.
