Game Week 17 round up: Who is safe? Who should be worried?

Erling Haaland stole the show on his return to his hood of birth and in company of his father who was grinning like a proud dad that he is in the stands and the rest of the City gladiators in the stands effectively put Leeds United to the sword to keep up at the top.

Manchester City beat Leeds United 3-1 at Elland Road, as expected and most predictably with two goals from Haaland who has now broken another record as the fastest to Twenty League Goals; at this rate, one won’t put fifty goals past Haaland this season.

To wrap up game week 17, the biggest winners must be Wolves that moved two places to 18th on the log, still in the red zone but an away win at Everton, which handed Julien Lopetegui his first win as a manager in England is enough springboard to help Wolves forward.

Southampton should be worried, Nathan Jones didn’t get the type of welcome he craves but he will now understand the work at hand as they will have it rougher than imagined in the coming game weeks and if they don’t get a grip and probably do business in January, they will go down.

Taking it one game at a time is key but Newcastle United can effectively throw themselves into the title race and no one would question them; an emphatic 3-0 win at Leicester means they rose to second temporarily but City did what they had to do and order was restored.

For a club that was bottom of the log a year ago with absolutely nothing to hold on to in terms of confidence and inspiration went on to pick the most points in 2022 and are now in the mix at the top, take a bow Eddie Howe.

Who should be worried? Frank Lampard and Everton should; if they don’t win the next game, it would be a surprise to see Lampard in charge beyond that point. The team has enough material to mix it around mid-table but somehow can’t string wins together, who takes the blame?

Westham went ahead at the Emirates but not many expected them to hold on to it considering how rampaging the Gunners have been but there’s something about David Moyes that might need some questioning, is he living in denial?

He was so sure his team would beat Arsenal which is pretty good on confidence ground but saying his team that sits just a point above the relegation zone isn’t in danger might be a little delusional. If Westham doesn’t start picking points, his hard work of two good seasons might end in the championship league.

How are they doing at Old Trafford? Gradually finding their feet post Cristiano Ronaldo and no one can question their desire; they were in for Cody Gakpo but Liverpool announced him earlier on Thursday and word on the street is that United is broke, how true?

Liverpool must bring back the fear factor, they had moments of doubts in their win over Aston Villa and how they close out games matter. Finishing in the top four looks hard considering how Arsenal, City, Newcastle and Spurs play but they can’t throw in the towel now. Interesting times ahead in the league.
