United's comeback win over Atalanta raises questions ahead of Liverpool visit

Cristiano Ronaldo rounded off the scoring as Manchester United came back from two goals down to beat Atalanta at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

With Liverpool lurking on Sunday, United can rest assured that if they bring their first half performance against the Italians to the all important league game they will be battered by the ever hungry Kops, and will they bank on a Comeback win?

It all looks like the winning goal on Wednesday night papered some cracks for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, ever smiling and composed, how much pressure can he contain before he gets the boot?

The win over Atalanta reminds one of the tales of a certain Jose Mourinho, at about same time two years ago, Mourinho’s Manchester United battled back from 2-0 down to beat Newcastle, while the Portuguese survived that scare, he was laid off two months later, is Ole on same path?

Liverpool will test United’s resolve when they meet in the league this weekend, there’s no hiding place or room for errors, United won’t overcome a slow start to beat a team that is as relentless as Liverpool’s, it’s either you come correct or you don’t show up at all.

Harry Maguire may have gotten away with one in the champions league, suspect for one of the goals but he scored the equalizer that set up the comeback, but his partnership with Victor Lindelof would be tested to their limits against the Kops.

How else would you like to prepare for such game like the visit of Liverpool to Old Trafford if not by scoring three times in a second half of a champions league game, yet there are lots of question marks on how United approach games.

Paul Pogba proved how much of importance he is to the Red Devils when he came off the bench to dictate play and set up the foundation for yet another memorable comeback win, how will be able to do that against a mobile Liverpool midfield would be seen on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo had been under fire of criticism but he has again silenced the lots that don’t respect him, many still wonder if he’s needed at Old Trafford at this time and the place of the manager would be under the torch as well owing to how much he can bring out of the mega star.

Will a poor result against Liverpool signal trouble for the Norwegian manager? Will he turn the corner from the big comeback win over Atalanta and build a run from there?

Marcus Rashford missed lots of chances against Atalanta but he has now scored two in two since coming back from injury. Mason Greenwood is in the form of his life and that means big money signing Jadon Sancho will need the latest seatbelt alongside veteran Edison Cavani.
