Liverpool are still on their strides, unbeaten despite having played European champions Chelsea, sitting third on the table only on goal difference and this is their chance to break away from the trio especially with Chelsea playing away at Spurs.

Crystal Palace have rich memories of this particular fixture but their heaviest defeat in the league in the modern era came from this same fixture last season when Liverpool shipped seven past Palace on a cold night at Selhurst Park.

What has changed? The ever present Roy Hodgson has left Palace and a man that knows Liverpool a bit has taken over, having played against them for as long as enough, Patrick Vieira will step on the Anfield pitch for the first time since leaving Arsenal on Saturday, this time as a manager.

Palace were left rolling in cloud 9 last weekend when they dusted the hitherto top club Tottenham who hadn’t lost in the league until they visited Vieira’s young side, 3-0 it ended and the match also introduced a new hero for the Eagles, Oddson Edouard.

The former Celtic striker came off the bench and fired one home just seconds after coming on for Christian Benteke, then followed that up with yet another sleek goal past Hugo Lloris to hand Palace their first win of the season.

Liverpool are entirely different animals, they are tireless but there’s still a hole in their midfield left by Gini Wijnaldum, the introduction of Harvey Elliot has brightened things in the middle but the injury he suffered against Leeds United will leave Jurgen Klopp with a decision to make.

How will they line up? Connor Gallagher is the man in Palace’s midfield, running hard and picking passes, yet getting at the end of chances, Liverpool will do well to curtail him, but will Vieira throw on Eduard from the start?

Sadio Mane has blossomed the most in this particular fixture and he got a fine goal against Leeds as well, will he do it again? Mo Sallah joined the 100 club and he doesn’t look like stopping soon, it will be an interesting game at Anfield, and maybe a long evening for the Eagle’s defenders.

Verdict: Liverpool to win
