Rashford on the Scoresheet for the Second Straight Game | How United’s Players Fared Against West Ham

Reminiscence of ‘Fergie Time’ reigned supreme on Saturday as a stoppage-time winner by Marcus Rashford ensured Manchester United secured an important three points against West Ham United in the race for a Champions League spot.

Despite delivering a well-rounded Performance throughout the ninety minutes, the Red Devils struggled to create chances in the attacking third. The Red Devils, however, eventually managed to secure a significant victory, taking them to fourth place on the Premier League table with a game in hand.

With the team in need of finding consistent results amidst a heated battle for top-four, Rangnick will be hoping to gradually improve performances over the coming weeks. Although United currently stand fourth in the table, only two points separate them and seventh-placed Tottenham Hotspur heading into a pivotal phase of the campaign.

Starting XI

David De Gea (GK) – 6/10: A relatively quiet evening for the Spaniard, De Gea remained untested for most of the ninety minutes. Having kept only his fifth clean-sheet in the Premier League on Saturday, the shot-stopper will be keen on improving his tally over the coming weeks.

Diogo Dalot (RB) – 7/10: An impressive outing saw the Manchester United full-back deliver another well-rounded performance against West Ham United. Having offered a distinct dynamic to the team’s style of play since his inclusion in the starting line-up, the Portuguese has proven to be a vital part of Rangnick’s game-plan in recent weeks. With Aaron Wan-Bissaka unlikely to displace him anytime soon, Dalot will be hoping to remain a consistent performer for the remainder of the campaign.

Raphael Varane (RCB) – 7/10: Having carried out his duties efficiently, Varane delivered yet another compelling performance on Saturday. With the team reliant on his organization and experience, the Frenchman will be keen on maintaining his rich vein of form until the end of the campaign.

Harry Maguire (LCB) – 7/10: An imposing performance against the Hammers saw Maguire, arguably, deliver his best display in recent weeks. Having been included in the side given Victor Lindelof’s absence, it remains to be seen if the Englishman retains his place in the starting line-up in the upcoming games.

Alex Telles (LB) – 6/10: Having had a string of decent outings, Telles will be hoping to increase his contributions over the coming weeks. The Brazilian has undoubtedly stepped up in Luke Shaw’s absence, and he will be hoping to cement his place in the starting line-up over the coming weeks.

Scott McTominay (CDM) – 6/10: Having, arguably, failed to step up from his impressive display against Brentford, McTominay delivered a rather sombre performance on Saturday. West Ham succeeded at stifling the midfielder’s driving runs, thereby limiting his impact in midfield. With Rangnick unlikely to change his midfield moving forward, the Scot will be hoping to deliver consistent performances going forward.

Fred (CM) – 5/10: Although a pivotal part of the Manchester United team, Fred’s performance against West Ham United encapsulated his inconsistency. Besides struggling to impose himself, the midfielder failed to contribute much in attack and remained relegated to a limited role against David Moyes’ men. With Rangnick reportedly interested in signing a new midfielder, it remains to be seen if Fred continues to remain a first-team player over the coming weeks.

Bruno Fernandes (CAM) – 6/10: The team’s primary creator, Fernandes grew into a frustrating figure over the course of the ninety minutes. The midfielder struggled to impose his vision against the Hammers, however, delivering a relatively disciplined performance for most of the game. With his effectiveness likely to influence United’s chances of top-four, Fernandes will be keen on delivering consistent performances over the coming weeks.

Mason Greenwood (RW) – 6/10: Adapting to a different role under the new manager, Greenwood delivered another disciplined performance on Saturday. With Jadon Sancho likely to return to the match-day squad for Burnley, it remains to be seen if Greenwood keeps his place in the lineup moving forward.

Anthony Elanga (LW) – 6/10: Despite failing to deliver an impactful performance, Elanga remained an energetic figure throughout his time on the pitch. With Marcus Rashford seemingly regaining his confidence, it remains to be seen if Elanga keeps his place in the starting line-up over the coming weeks.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) – 6/10: Having struggled to find the back of the net in recent weeks, Ronaldo, yet again, proved to be unimpactful in the attacking third against West Ham. With the team in need of his contributions moving forward, the Portuguese will be keen on getting back to his best over the coming weeks.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford (RW) – 7/10: United’s match-winner on the evening, Rashford netted his second goal in consecutive league outings on Saturday. Seemingly returning to his best, the winger will be keen on retaining his spot in the starting line-up in the upcoming games.

Anthony Martial (LW) – 7/10: Heralded as the game-changer against West Ham United, Martial’s unexpected introduction paved the way for the dominance of Manchester United in the final minutes of the game. The Frenchman played a vital part in the match-winning goal alongside stretching the opposition’s full-backs during his cameo. With his desire to move clubs in January, it remains to be seen if Martial seeks a transfer or decides to fight for his place at United until the end of the campaign.

Edinson Cavani (ST) – 6/10: Having delivered the assist for Rashford’s goal, Cavani ensured he produced an impactful cameo on Saturday. With the team in need of his services, the Uruguayan will be hoping to stay fit and contribute to the team’s ambitions heading into a pivotal phase of the season.
