Unai Emery has demanded his Arsenal players to lose body fat as he believes they are unable to cover enough ground during a game according to reports.
During his sides opening day loss against Manchester City, Arsenal fans finally got a chance to witness their players in competitive action for the first time under their new manager’s philosophy and high intensity playing style and its fair to say that could have gone a lot better.
Arsenal boss Emery is trying to adapt his players to his new high pressing and high energy style of play and in order to fully get his players integrated into his new system he believes they all need to alter their body composition by losing an average of 1.3 Kg of fat and replace it with 1.23 Kg of muscle which could well result in a full modification of their daily diet.
Reason being that he wants his players to cover an extra 28.89km this season which equates to 760m per man each game. For this Arsenal boss Unai Emery has reportedly instructed his Director of high performance to closely monitor their altered diet in order to make sure his players are able to put in the extra mile during the game.
Arsenal boss is well aware of their poor injury record and wants to ensure that does not carry from last season and wants his players to be available for 90% of the games this season.
Arsenal 0-2 Man City: How Things Happened As Gunners Got Bullied On Opening Day
The Former Sevilla and PSG boss Unai Emery has built his reputation with an high intensity and high energy based game which involves his players extensively pressing and chasing the ball, something which is very much similar to what Pep has imposed on his team in his time here at England.
So in order for his players to be fully able to play the game in his way he wants to them clear out the excess fat and transform it to lean muscle in their body so that along with being able to put in more effort they are also able to reduce their extremely disturbing injury record.
Seems simple enough if you are able to tow down that line and well as an example we can always look to the likes of Nasri and Clichy and how their careers subsequently went down the drain due to them being considered too fat and stubborn to mend their ways under Pep Guardiola.
Emery will be seriously scrutinising his opening day loss at the hands of his familiar rival Pep Guardiola and will surely be looking to ring in changes ahead of another high weightage game vs Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
With Alexandre Lacazette making quite an impact after coming on from the match, Emery could well look to start with both Aubameyang being pushed out wide to accommodate Lacazette on the pitch. Moreover Emery has already made it clear that Cech gets to keep his place in between the sticks but what remains to be seen is whether he sticks with new boy Guendouzi at the middle of the park or does Torreira get to make his first full Premier League start.
In the full back position after an injury to youngster Ainsley Maitland Niles, Arsenal are now left with either Nacho Monreal who is yet to fully recover from his own injury setback or start with Lichtsteiner like he has apparently been practising at left back in training.
Debuting in the Premier League with two opening games vs Manchester City home followed by Chelsea away was never going to be easy and the full impact of the manager Unai Emery and his new philosophy and training regimes can only be fully understood after a few match days being played.
However what needs to be present from the off is the desire to get better everyday and that we can only see if its there or not on Sunday at Stamford Bridge when we face off against Oliver Giroud and the players under his shadow.
