Needing just a single win for keeping their finals hopes alive, the Thunder’s innings was shattered by the Sixers to just 6/156 courtesy of 49 from the all-rounder Chris Green and a later surge yielding 50 runs from the final four overs.

However, the Sixers’ top order led them down all through the season.

The Englishman Joe Denly, making his Big Bash debut scuffed of the neck with the opening overs,

setting his side for their first victory of the season in front of a crowd of 36,458.

Denly (43 off 29 balls) and Daniel Hughes (66 not out off 55 balls) put on 69 for the first wicket and the Sixers trailed ahead. Soon the Thunder’s spin trio of Green,

Fawad Ahmed and Arjun Nair dragged their influence back in the game and showed some accurate bowling, ripping of a few important wickets.

Green was the on the responsibility of keeping the Sixers from scoring the nine runs.

That was required during the final over and taking the game to the final ball Henriquez gave a marvelous strike reducing 0the need of just two runs to win.

Green bowled a full on leg stump and acting smart Henriques dug it completely out sending the ball to the outfield far away from the Thunder fielder Gurinder Sandhu. He easily managed to return for the second run, gaining a drought-breaking victory.

Green said after receiving the player of the match award said, “It’s bitter-sweet to be honest, particularly with us having to win our remaining games. To lose so close there going down to the last ball is obviously entertaining for the fans but for us it’s a bit of a kick in the guts. I was just trying toback in my yorker, trust my gut with the change of pace at certain times; pity it didn’t come off tonight.”

Bowling first, their pace bowlers extracted the extra bounce and the sideways movement restricting the Thunder batsmen for the early overs. Brathwaite was the man who removed Test star Usman Khawaja (LBW) for just eight runs.

The Thunder roared gaining the early momentum during their innings that kept ignited with Green’s efforts (49 off 27 balls) but couldn’t considerably keep up the flow, leading to their fall
