Championship Predictions: Middlesbrough and Norwich to win? Sheffield Wednesday to draw again?

Since there are still a few teams left in FA Cup, we will get a chance to see only seven matches in Championship this weekend. There are not direct rivals fighting for position in this round, but there will certainly be a lot of excitement. Here are our predictions for this weekend in Championship.

Rotherham United vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday is not in such a bad form, but they are struggling to score at the moment. They have scored only two goals in their last four matches and although this should be an easy game for them, Rotherham United is good in defence when it comes to home performance. Rotherham has just got in the relegation zone and they will try to get out of it with getting more wins at home. Both teams will fight for a win as both teams need all three points from this one, but I am not sure that any of these two sides is able to get a win in this kind of game.

Draw: 1-1

Aston Villa vs West Bromwich Albion

When the season started I expected these two to be direct rivals, however Aston Villa has been awful this season. They are conceding far too many and I don’t think that they have a chance of getting play-offs. I expect a lot of action on both sides as both teams are excellent in attack. West Bromwich Albion is not in their best form right now, but they are still one of the best teams in Championship. I expect them to control the game and score more goals than their opponents.

West Bromwich Albion to win: 2-3

Bolton Wanderers vs Norwich City

Norwich City has lost their first place to Leeds United and here is their chance to get it back and stay first until Leeds meet with Queens Park Rangers. Bolton Wanderers have just won their first away game in goodness knows how long, but I don’t think that they are good enough to compete against one of the best clubs in the league. Teemu Pukki is one goal away from becoming Championship top scorer and I expect him to score at least one against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Norwich City to win: 0-2

Ipswich Town vs Stoke City

It’s hard to say which one of these two teams is in worse form currently, and that says much about Stoke City this season. They look unmotivated, they are awful lately and they are even unlucky at the times. They are in bad form, but they should be still winning games like this. Ipswich Town has been by far the worst team in Championship this season. Stoke City is having an excellent group of players and although they had an awful season, they are more than capable of winning against Ipswich Town.

Stoke City to win: 0-2

Preston North End vs Nottingham Forest

Preston North End is favorites against Nottingham Forest and that is far from what I expected at the beginning of the season. But these things happen in football Nottingham Forest couldn’t be consistent as everyone expected them to be. Preston is currently in excellent form, they are unbeaten in their last six games and they have been solid at home this season. Nottingham Forest on the other side is struggling to get a win, especially away from home where they failed to win in last 7 matches.

Preston North End to win: 2-1

Sheffield United vs Reading

Sheffield United is still hoping to get a straight promotion and they are not far away from achieving it. They will play against Reading on Saturday and they have to work hard to get all three points. Reading has improved lately. It looks like they have chosen a right manager as they are unbeaten in their last four matches and finally out of relegation zone. I don’t expect this to be an easy match for Sheffield United, but they have been a better side this whole season and I am confident that they can win matches like this one.

Sheffield United to win: 1-0

Blackburn Rovers vs Middlesbrough

Last game in Championship this weekend will be the clash between Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough. Both teams are in better form and both teams are quickly losing their chances of promotion. Middlesbrough has done everything but improving under Tony Pulis and fans do not have any patience for more mistakes. Both teams will fight hard for three points here, and although Blackburn Rovers are an excellent side, I expect Middlesbrough to win simply because they can’t afford to lose any more points.

Middlesbrough to win: 1-2
