Premier League predictions: Chelsea to win. Arsenal to keep winning?

This weekend’s Premier League fixtures can reshape both the top and the bottom of the table. It is going to be a very important weekend for most of the teams and especially for Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Brighton have won a very important three points at St James’s Park last weekend. AT the same time Wolves failed against Watford and I think that they will put a strong performance at the Falmers Stadium on Saturday. One of their best players Ruben Neves has already been rumored as a next Manchester City player, but I think that City should have to wait until the summer for that. For now Wolves are focused to get the best of their return to the Premier League.

Wolves to win: 1:2

Fulham vs AFC Bournemouth

Fulham play a good football, but as of now the life in the Premier League isn’t easy for them. Now the Cottagers welcome the high-flying Bournemouth and I would not surprised if the game goes the Bournemouth’s way. However, Fulham have some very good and experienced players and I think that if they step up, they might win the game.

Fulham to win: 2:1

Liverpool vs Cardiff City

Liverpool must be very careful with Cardiff City this weekend. The Welsh team has just won their first win of the season and they will be looking forward to build on that. It might look that Liverpool have won an easy game against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, during the midweek, but it wasn’t like that. The start was hard for the Reds and despite that all their front three – Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Sarah and Sadio Made – scored goals, the Jurgen Klopp’s men aren’t that good when they are going forward as they were last season.

Liverpool to win: 2:0

Southampton vs Newcastle United

The home loss against Brighton last weekend  has made the Magpies fans to feel miserable. They probably feel like they are going to the Championship this season and even Rafael Benitez could not save them this time. The problem is that Newcastle are now visiting Southampton who are definitely better team than them and another loss for the Magpies would not surprise anyone.

The Saints will see this fixture as an opportunity to win 3 points against a team who is too vulnerable in the back. Southampton are the more likely winner, but I’ll tip Newcastle to get a point, simply because if they don’t, they are going nowhere.

Draw: 1:1

Watford vs Huddersfield Town

Watford have been impressive so far this season and it think they are exceeding their fans expectations. Their away win at Wolverhampton shows that whoever underestimates the Hornets would suffer a defeat. Daryl Janmaat, Tom Cleverley and Sebastian Prodl are not available for Hornets while Troy Deeney and Nathaniel Chalobah will be accessed and face late fitness tests. If they aren’t available the Terriers might get a result. They needs it badly and will be very motivated.

Draw: 1:1

Leicester City vs West Ham United

Claude Puel will mark his first year in charge at Leicester. He has said that his priority is to develop young players, to improve the Leicester City squad together. “We have the possibility to be near the top of the table. It is the ambition of the club and the owners. We want to compete at a high level”, said Puel. I think that Leicester were very good on their Monday visit to Emirates stadium. They have lost the game, as the Gunners were a little bit better, but under Puel they have been growing as a team and play very well. Jamie Vardy is doubtful for the Foxes while Wes Morgan will serve a suspension.

The Hammers have had to deal with a lot of pressure as they have started the season with 4 losses. Andriy Yarmolenko got injured for the Hammers last game and will be out for months after he had a Achilles surgery. Pedro Obiang has calf problem, Carlos Sanchez and Winston Reid are also out.

Both teams either win or loose their games so fat this season, but I think that in this particular game, they would split the points.

Draw: 1:1

Burnley vs Chelsea

It is going to be a tough test for the Blues. This fixture is very important for Burnley as it will show how competitive they are this season. Steven Defour has returned for them last week after a lengthily spell on the sidelines. Chelsea are the much better team and they should win this game if they want to stay in the title race. It is very important who will score first. If Burnley do that, it is very likely that they would get something from this fixture.

Chelsea don’t have any major injury worries and I think that the most likely result is:

Chelsea to win: 1:2

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

Unlike Arsenal Crystal Palace aren’t doing good and are on -6 goal difference. Arsenal should win this game, despite that it is a London derby. However, they have played in Lisbon against Sporting on Thursday evening and despite that they won that one, their legs will not be fresh enough. This creates certain advantage for Palace.

Arsenal are enjoying their game, they have created momentum, which they will try to keep going. I thought they will be at top 4 at the end of the October and I have projected that in the middle of September (see article Keeping an eye on Arsenal). I think that they have every chance to win at Selhust Park against out of form Palace, who’s top striker Christian Benteke is out. Wilfred Zaha has also been injured, despite that is is expected to play this weekend.

Arsenal to win: 1:2

Manchester United vs Everton

A must win game for Jose Mourinho, as his team struggles to get results in the Premier League. I watched Man United against Juventus and they weren’t bad. They have had chances to score and could have drawn this game. Juventus are probably the best performing team in the European football this season and I think that alongside Barcelona they are one of the main favorites to win the Champions League.

Everton don’t play well at Old Trafford and whatever formation and performance they put  there, Manchester United usually finds a way to win. I don’t think it will be any different this weekend.

Man United to win: 3:1

Tottenham vs Manchester City

A big Monday football night, isn’t it? This is a chance for Tottenham to keep going and to stay in the title race. They are a very good team, probably a better one than they were last season, but there is something missing in their game. They start the games well, but haven’t been finishing them well, which prevents them to get results. This is what happened against WAtfrod in the Premier League and against Inter and PSV in the Champions League.

Manchester City have been playing in a typical City style as we know it form last season. They the matches go their way they score a lot of goals. However, I think that they aren’t as good as they were last season and the home loss against Lyon in the Champions League is a worrying sign for them.

It is very important who will score first. If Spurs have a good day, they will probably win. If City open the scoresheet and Spurs show some defensive weaknesses, the Pep Guardiola led team would trans them!

Draw: 2:2
