Championship Predictions: Cardiff to win? Draw in Ipswich?

This weekend will bring us another incredible Championship matchweek. Wolves will play against Sheffield Wednesday away from home on Friday and all other games will be played on Saturday. When I was a kid I loved December for all that snow and Christmas spirit, but today I can’t wait for December to come only to watch all that English football. Christmas spirit is fine, but football is something that never goes away, football is the real love and real joy, and because of the love we feel for the game, we try to analyze and predict results for every Championship gameweek.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Wolves

Wolves are still first but they only managed to get a point at home against Sunderland. Good news for them is the fact that Cardiff has also got only a point against Reading so they are still not close enough to fight for first place. However, Wolves need to get back on their winning run in order to secure their first place. Sheffield Wednesday is good at home where they lost only one game so far, they play more comfortable at home and they are not having a hard time scoring. So Wolves may not keep a clean sheet this time, but it will be hard for Sheffield Wednesday’s defence to keep Leo Bonatini and Diogo Jota from finding a back of the net.

Wolves to win: 1-2

Birmingham vs QPR

It is certain that QPR has better squad and better results than Birmingham this season, but it is also the fact that they still haven’t won a single away game. They concede a lot, while Birmingham is struggling to score. On the other side, Birmingham is not having a problem with their defence when they play at home, so this game does not promise us a lot of goals. Birmingham will rely on their defence and wait for their opportunity to score from a counter.

Birmingham to win: 1-0

Bolton vs Burton

Bolton has got away from relegation zone, but their relegation battle still isn’t finished. They made some better results lately and games like this are the real challenge for them. If they win, they will be in much better position. They concede a lot, but Burton has only scored three times away from home this season. Gary Madine with 6 goals and 4 assists is the best player in Bolton’s squad this season. Bolton can rely on their attack, while a clean sheet can be a big boost for the team.

Bolton to win: 2-0

Brentford vs Barnsley

Loosing against Hull after they took a lead is something that spoiled Brentford’s plans for getting their fight for play-offs back. On Saturday they will play against Barnsley, a club that has been in awful form lately. Barnsley has lost all of their last five matches as they were conceding a lot while struggling to find a back of the net. Brentford is a club with a really good attack; a young Frenchmen Neal Maupay seems to be finding his form in his first Championship season, while Ollie Watkins has also been great for Brentford so far. This should be an easy game for Brentford and a way for them to get back on winning run.

Brentford to win: 2-1

Bristol City vs Nottingham Forest

At the moment, Bristol City is a club with a best chance of getting closer to Cardiff as they are still fighting for a second spot. Nottingham Forest has been awful away from home this season; they have won only three and lost seven games. They are conceding quite a lot, but they are not having a trouble scoring. So it is expected for both clubs to score, but can Nottingham Forest keep Bobby Reid and Bristol City’s attack from scoring more than once?

Bristol City to win: 2-1

Derby vs Aston Villa

If you’re asking for the biggest game in this matchweek I’ll say that this this is the one. It’s not just a fact that two big clubs are playing against each other; it’s the fact that they are direct opponents too. Aston Villa has been better throughout the season, but at the moment Derby is in better form. It is certain that Aston Villa will rely on their excellent defence and wait for Derby to make a mistake. This game does not promise a lot of goals and it can easily get finished with both sides keeping a clean sheet.

Draw: 0-0

Ipswich vs Reading

The decision to keep Jaap Stam as their manager is starting to pay off for Reading. They have been on the good run lately and it is certain that they will give their best to continue that form against Ipswich. However, Ipswich has been magnificent too, although they made some mistakes lately, they are still in pretty good form. After Al-Habsi has left, Reading is struggling to keep a clean sheet, they concede a lot and Ipswich does concede a lot too. This game promises a lot of goals, but it is hard to say if any side has a better chance of winning.

Draw: 2-2

Leeds vs Norwich

Leeds has been poor at home lately, but luckily for them, Norwich is not so good away too. Kemar Roofe has scored a hat-trick for Leeds against QPR, and if he continues that form, Norwich will have a hard time stopping him, Egzijan Alioski and Samuel Saiz. Norwich is still struggling to find a back of the net, so this can be a perfect chance for Leeds to keep a clean sheet. In order to get to the play-offs, Leeds has to win games like this.

Leeds to win: 2-0

Millwall vs Middlesbrough

Playing against Millwall away from home is always hard, but if you fight for play-offs and you have only won three away games whole season, than this game is a real challenge. Sometimes, it looks like Garry Monk is still trying to figure out what team to bring out. Britt Assombalonga has certainly found his form, but Middlesbrough is still not scoring enough to get to the play offs. Millwall will play to win like they always play at home, so both clubs will probably score, but draw looks like the most likely outcome.

Draw: 1-1

Preston vs Sheffield United

Sheffield United has lost their second place, and now they are on the edge of losing their play-off spot too. In order to get back on tracks, they need a win here. Preston has been a tough opponent this season, and for them, this is a perfect chance to get closer to the play-offs. Both Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp are fit and ready to start for Sheffield United on Saturday as it should be expected for Lee Johnson to get out with a more attacking line up. The fact that Preston is defensively good at home is telling us not to expect a lot of goals from this game, but we can expect from Sheffield United to handle pressure and try to win this one.

Sheffield United to win: 0-1

Sunderland vs Fulham

Sunderland still hasn’t won at home, while Fulham is getting better and better. It is true that Chris Coleman already proved to be a perfect choice for Sunderland, but they are still having a lot of injuries and they are still not good enough at home. These two clubs play a different style of football; Fulham is trying to play more attractive football, while Sunderland is trying to win with only one goal lately. So we might not see so many goals in this one, but it will certainly be exciting and good game to watch.

Fulham to win: 0-1

Cardiff vs Hull

Playing against Hull is a perfect chance for Cardiff to get closer to Wolves and get away from Bristol City. Hull is conceding a lot, but they are scoring a lot too. However, Cardiff is not a team that you can easily score against. They are great defensively and they conceded only five goals at home so far. It will be certainly hard for Hull’s defence to keep Junior Hoilett from getting another goal or assist since he has been magnificent for Cardiff so far this season. This should be an easy game for Cardiff as they have enough confidence and experience to find a win in games like this.

Cardiff to win: 2-0
