Both Manchester United and Manchester City looked strong and prepared to chase for the title during the Premier League opening weekend. United and City started against opponents who weren’t supposed to stop them, with Red Devils hosting West Ham and the Sky Blues visiting the newly promoted Brighton.

While the Seagulls gave Man City a fight and it took Pep Guardiola’s team 70 minutes to score a goal, United went pass a very unimpressive West Ham side. We’d better not judge the Hammers by the first away game of the season played at Old Trafford, but they looked more or less helpless on Sunday afternoon. If Slaven Bilic does not change anything in his squad, it is very likely West Ham to be involved in the relegation battle this season.

It is good to have Olivier Giroud?

Arsenal have been lucky on Friday evening to have Olivier Giroud in their squad. He has made the difference in their opening game against Leicester City and completely changed the start of the season for the Gunners. Before he came on the pitch Arsenal looked destined for another poor Premier League season. The good news for them is that they are about the welcome Alexis Sanchez back to the Club.

Some issues to resolve at Stamford Bridge?

It is only Chelsea and Liverpool who have failed on the start of the season. Chelsea have just proved to be mentaly unprepared for their opening game. It is very early to make conclusions about their game, but Antonio Conte needs to Eden Hazard back on the pitch, playing alongside Alvaro Morata, who has proved that he will be a game changer for Chelsea this season.

Unconvincing Liverpool!

Liverpool, another top 4 contender, have probably hoped that they will chase for the title this season. They did;t look like a genuine title contender in the early Saturday afternoon, however. The Reds defence produced another familiarly poor performance for the first Watford goal and at the end of the match, in the storage time have been a huge disappointment for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds fans.

Having said “Jurgen Klopp”, I’d stress that the charismatic German is now fully responsible both for the Liverpool’s defense and for what proved to be a very unconvincing game management. Liverpool’s stickers have been at their best at Vicarage Road and did whatever they should to win the game. It was Klopp’s responsibility to reorganize his formation in a way that it would not allow the Hornets to attack in the closing stages of the game.

Klopp have probably got late with his decision to make changes in the Liverpool squad. Instead of strengthening his defensive midfield and to close the spaces for Watford as early as possible, he has substituted Roberto Firmino in the 81st minute and introduced Divock Origi. Five minutes later, he has made another change that should have helped the Reds to reorganize their game, but bringing James Milner in for Mohamed Salah.

Watford might have been very lucky with the later goal scored by Watford defender Miguel Britos, as the referee could have seen an offside. It was 100 precent Liverpool’s responsibility to take control over a game, which have looked to have already won by 90th minute.

Everton fans have every right to be optimistic this season

There could not be a better return at his boyhood club for Wayne Rooney. He has given Everton what the club has been missing – a class sand quality.

The Toffees have spent well so far this summer and they still expect to break the club transfer record by paying £50 million to bring Gylfi Sigurdsson to Goodison Park. Their new goalkeeper Jordan Pickford have started repaying his the money Everton paid for him by making a late save from a Shaqiri effort that looked to be heading for the top corner. As of now everything look good for the Toffees.

Other teams that deserve to be praised based on their weekend performances are Huddersfield Town and Tottenham. Spurs have got what they had to at Saint James’s park, while Huddersfield went past Crystal Palace in an unforgettable Premier League debut.

Next week Crystal Palace go to Anfield to play a fixture they have been winning within the last fe seasons. After their unconvincing start of the season Liverpool could not afford any giveaways and if Palace looses next week, they’d be a bottom club.

I feel I need finish this Premier League’s opening week’s review, by giving, a credit to Jose Mourinho and Man United. Mourinho knows what he is doing and has created a strong team which is ready to chase for the title.
