The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning about Peloton Tread+ machines in April after the death of a child.
However, on Thursday, Peloton issued a voluntary Recall, urging Tread+ users to immediately stop using the machine and to contact the company for a full refund by November 6, 2022.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission cited the risk of injury as the reason for the recall, following the death of a six-year-old child and 72 reports of adults, children, pets and objects being pulled under the treadmill.
I want to be clear, Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's request that we recall the Tread+.
"Today's announcement reflects our recognition that, by working closely with the CPSC, we can increase safety awareness for our members.
We believe strongly in the future of at-home connected fitness and are committed to work with the CPSC to set new industry safety standards for treadmills.
