UFC Brooklyn: Joseph Benavidez earns decision win over Dustin Ortiz

Joseph Benavidez defeated Dustin Ortiz via unanimous decision (29-28 3x) on Saturday Jan. 19, live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

I want the winner of that title fight between [Henry] Cejudo and TJ [Dillashaw],” Benavidez told Jon Anik after the win.

Benavidez hopped immediately into top position before moving to side control, not landing much ground and pound.

Ortiz continued to try to land punches with Benavidez on his back while simultaneously hand fighting to avoid the rear-naked choke.

After a bout with Ray Borg was called off just days before UFC Denver, Benavidez managed to get a fight with Alex Perez at the end of the month.

He was offered the opportunity to be a backup for the main event in case either fighter didn’t make it to fight night, but Benavidez ultimately wanted to compete.
