Mike Montgomery, Cubs lead Rays 2-0 in 5th

Cubs Manager Joe Maddon received a very warm homecoming Tuesday night that included a video tribute for his nine seasons as Rays manager after the first inning at Tropicana Field.

The Cubs have obliged by giving Maddon a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Javier Baez, batting ninth, hit a single to start the third but was left stranded at third after Anthony Rizzo struck out.

Montgomery hasn’t allowed a hit through the first four innings while mixing his big-breaking curve with a sharp fastball.

Shortstop Addison Russell committed a throwing error with one out in the fourth on a grounder by Steven Souza Jr. Ben Zobrist has taken charge in left by calling off center fielder Jon Jay on shallow balls hit in left center by Adeiny Hechevarria in the third and Kevin Kiermaier in the fourth.
