Scratch Pro Bowl cornerback off 49ers radar

The Latest: Fields, roads flooding in southwest Louisiana General manager John Lynch left open the possibility the 49ers might pursue cornerback Joe Haden, who got released Wednesday morning by the Cleveland Browns.

By Wednesday afternoon, however, NFL Media reported that Haden agreed to a three-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who on Tuesday also added to their roster by trading the 49ers for tight end Vance McDonald.

Ahkello Witherspoon, Keith Reaser and Asa Jackson struggled in coverage in Sunday night’s second-half collapse at Minnesota.

Haden made two Pro Bowls, the last coming in the 2014 season when he overlapped there with current 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan as the Browns offensive coordinator.

Rookie tight end George Kittle, who had an impressive touchdown catch in the 49ers’ second exhibition, is poised to start following Vance McDonald’s trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
