As Giants tumble, so do ticket prices on resale market

The Giants, who entered the Mets series with 27 wins and 48 losses, largely are insulated financially from the drop in demand because they sold 31,000 season tickets before the team played a regular-season game.

Daniel De Lorenzi, an outside salesman from San Rafael, owns five season tickets, two in the upper deck that he bought before the ballpark opened in 2000 and three lower-box seats that he purchased eight years ago.

Sara Brothers, an insurance executive who recently started following the Giants after moving to San Francisco, likes to buy tickets on the resale market in the lower boxes and has benefited from the trend.

Russ Stanley, the Giants’ managing vice president of ticket sales and services, said a lot of empty seats belong to brokers who bought them on spec and then could not resell them.
