United show title credentials by going top of the Premier League

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have gone top of the Premier League with 17 games played and this, I can daresay was not envisaged by many folks at this stage of the season, even amongst Man United fans.

They beat Burnley 1 nil at Turf Moor in their outstanding match on Tuesday night through a goal by Paul Pogba and this pushed them to the summit of the Premier League table.

The Red Devils started the season on an average note with a terrible form at home in the Premier League while they were ruthless away from home.

However, in recent months they’ve found a solution to the poor form at Old Trafford and have won 4 and drawn 1 of the last 5 games at home.

Their away form remains flawless with 7 wins and 1 draw in 8 games and has no doubt contributed to their current position at the top.

The Red Devils are currently the most in-form team in the Premier League presently on a points-per-game basis with an average of 2.11.

Should the Red Devils be taken seriously as major title contenders this season? I never believed I would be saying this, but yes, they should be taken as a major title contender with the results and consistency they’ve pulled off.

The Red Devils always seem unstoppable whenever they get going with positive results under the Norwegian, and this time, they’ve got going very early in the season.

This should be cause for concern for any team that wants to win the Premier League this season.

Meanwhile, a case could be made that they’ve not been able to beat any of the big sides this season. This matters though as those big sides are still in the running for the title.

Three points separate them from defending champions Liverpool while city rivals Man City have 2 games in hand and victory in those 2 games will put them within 1 point of the top position.

I’m sure that the Red Devils are aware of this argument and will be eager to make a point when they travel to face champions Liverpool on Sunday.

This game is a major test of their title credentials and should go a long way in determining if they can stand the test of time as major title contenders or if they’ll fall like a pack of cards when the going gets tough.

Regardless, they’ve shown stuff of champions by being able to garner maximum points from games where they weren’t at their best and this is a key trait of all eventual Premier League champions.

The Red Devils are flying presently and we look forward to how they perform going forward as Premier League leaders, starting with the game at Anfield against defending champions and perennial rivals Liverpool.
