Angel Gomes set to leave Manchester United

Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Angel Gomes is likely to leave the club. He was initially hoping that the midfielder would extend his contract at Old Trafford but there has been no update, with the 19-year-old’s deal set to run out on Tuesday.

“I’ve got no news, nothing, so it doesn’t look like [he will stay],” Solskjaer told a news conference on Monday.

“I’ve not heard from them last night or this morning. It seems like they haven’t managed to agree so the answer is probably short and yes [he will leave].”

Meanwhile, Man United, who will be facing Chelsea in the last 4 of the FA Cup after eliminating Norwich City during the weekend, will turn their attention to the Premier League as they travel to face Brighton on Tuesday.

Man United remain undefeated in 15 games and will be looking to extend the run and keep the pressure on those above them in the race for a top-four finish.

There are still 7 games left to play in the Premier League and the Red Devils currently sit sixth on the log, five points behind 6th place Chelsea. Speaking ahead of the game, Solskjaer said:

“I think there are many teams in that battle for third and fourth — Leicester, Chelsea, us, Wolves are doing really well”

“The players are working really hard and want to do as well as they can.

“For me as a team we’re trying to implement our ideas. When you go into the next game knowing you’ve won the previous game it’s a good place to be in.”

Brighton will be looking to get something from the game to stay safe from the relegation zone. Their last two games saw them beat Arsenal and draw against Leicester City.

This game is a potential banana peel for the Red Devils as they’ve lost in their last two visits to the Amex Stadium. The game won’t have fans on the stands but Solskjaer believes that this doesn’t amount to an advantage for his side.

“They’re a good footballing side, play football and make it hard for you,” he added.

“I’ve not been down there myself and fans, of course they matter and have an impact on games and football.

“We have to deal with the situation as it is and as an away team, sometimes it helps you but then again when you’re at the bottom pressure of fans can get to you and give an extra edge.”
