Klopp – Liverpool need more information on Salah and the Olympics

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the club need more information before they can decide if Mohammed Salah will be allowed to represent Egypt at the Olympics. Although the tournament is designed for Under-23 players, three over-age players can participate.

Salah. 27, is included in the 50-man provisional list released by Egypt for the event and the final is billed for August 8, the first day of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

“Do I want to lose a player in pre-season? Of course not. That’s clear,” said Liverpool boss Klopp.

“But we have to consider different things. I will speak with Mo and all that stuff.”

It can be recalled that FIFA previously acknowledged that clubs are under no obligation to release over-age players for the Games in Tokyo and Egypt coach Shawky Gharib has admitted that the decision lies in Liverpool’s hands.

Meanwhile, Klopp has stated that the club have not been contacted by anyone concerning Mohammed Salah’s involvement and the news is just in the media.

“We are completely clear about what we want, but we need more information: how will it look, when will the preparation start, all that stuff,” he added.

“No decision yet, but we will see.”
