Manchester United may have been handed a huge boost in their quest for Uefa Champions League glory as Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar is a major doubt for the round of 16 UCL clash between the two sides in February.
Neymar left the pitch in tears during PSG’s 2 nil Coupe de France win against Strasbourg on Wednesday night. It was thought that the Brazil international had suffered an injury to his right ankle.
However, after initial examinations, it was confirmed that Neymar had suffered a “reactivation of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal,” and the degree of the condition will be ascertained in the coming days.

The Brazilian suffered the same metatarsal fracture last February, a condition which required surgery and effectively ended his club campaign for the season.
Speaking to reporters after the game, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said: “Neymar is worried, because it’s the same foot, the right foot, in the same area”
Thomas Tuchel also went on to criticize the match official: “The referee didn’t whistle on one occasion, then two, then three and after that he ended up twisting his foot.”
Neymar will now race against time and hope to be available when the Ligue 1 giants take on the Red Devils at Old Trafford on February 12 in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Meanwhile, it’s possible that Neymar could be forced to undergo another surgery for the second time in 12 months and this doesn’t bode well for his chances to feature in the game.
