Salah Proud To Be First Egyptian To Win PFA Player Award

Egypt international Mohammed Salah has emerged winner of the PFA Player of the year after an impressive and explosive first season at Liverpool. Your guess is as good as ours that nobody saw this scenario panning out at this stage of the season when the attacker signed for Liverpool from Roma in a £34.3 million deal.

The signing could easily pass for the best of the 2017/18 Premier League season as his performances for Liverpool has attracted significant recognition from his footballing peers and major football stakeholders.

The 25-year-old was named the Player of the Year at the 45th PFA Awards at Grosvenor House in Central London last night as he beat off tough competition from Man City star Kevin De Bruyne.

The pair have been standout performers for their various sides, with De Bruyne’s Man City being flawless on the road to their 2017/18 Premier League title win. However, Salah emerged victoriously, with one of the greatest debut performances in Liverpool’s history. Other shortlisted players were Leroy Sane, who was crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year, David Silva, David Da Gea and Harry Kane.

“It’s a big honour. I’ve worked hard and I’m very happy to win it,” Salah said.

When asked what it felt like to be the first Egyptian to win the award, Salah replied: “Hopefully I’m not the last one! I’m very proud.”
